From a small circle of students in Brno to a recognised community of learners, writers and performers across the Czech Republic.
Rooted in Brno since 2005
English Students' Club began in 2005 as an initiative of students who wanted more than classroom English. They wanted a place to read, argue, perform and write in the language they were studying — and to share it with others.
Over the years, the association has organised conversation clubs, study support groups, theatre productions, open mic evenings and creative writing contests. Generations of members have passed through its activities, many of them going on to teach, translate and work internationally.
With the recodification of Czech civil law, the association was enrolled in the Public Register maintained by the Regional Court in Brno as a spolek (z. s.) on 1 January 2014, under file number L 11248.
Our history
- 2005
Founded on 18 July 2005 by students of English in Brno as a civic association.
- 2005–2013
Growth of reading groups, conversation evenings and the first student theatre productions.
- 2014
Under the new Civil Code, enrolled in the Public Register as a spolek (z. s.) on 1 January 2014.
- 2014–2024
Creative writing contests, open mic nights and cooperation with academic departments.
- 2025
New statutory body appointed on 6 November 2025; an office opened in Karlovy Vary.
